21st Century Astronomy (with Student CD-ROM)
Published in Paperback by W.W. Norton & Company (April, 2002)
Average review score:

Out of this worldWonderful explanations. This is the astronomy book I never had as a kid! I'm a biologist and always thought I had the good fortune of working in the most interesting field. It sounds trite, but this book has opened my eyes to a universe out there. Now I even sort of understand black holes and the implications of relativity.

The Jesus Myth
Published in Paperback by Doubleday (June, 1971)
Average review score:

Deceiving title, worthless book!As a Catholic priest, Andrew M. Greeley appears more like an apologist than a critical scholar in this book. With a very misleading title he gives the impression of advokating the oppinions of the Mythical Jesus school, only to prove the opposite! He uses the word "myth" in its most positive sense, namely not as "legend / symbolic religious fantasy", but rather as "the inner meaning of the universe and of human life". That would translate into something like "Jesus as your personal truth..."
Believing in Jesus' historicity, A.M.Greeley points, as a true modern apologist, towards the differences between Christianity and e.g. the hellenistic mystery schools or the Dead Sea Community, rather than high-lighting their common features.
Basically this book could be described as a journey through Mr. Greeley's own personal theological process. As to religious politics it's generally a refutation of the critical studies on the mythical Jesus figure as they have been led by the diverse academic schools.
All in all this book is a disappointment and the title seems to me to be nothing less than a lie!

Kodiak
Published in Hardcover by 1stBooks Library (March, 2002)
Average review score:

Not about Kodiak IslandI bought this book because I wanted to read about events, personal experience or history of Kodiak Island, Alaska. Unfortunately, the story has basically nothing to do with the Island. After browsing through the book I am still not sure why this title was given to it. The book actually describes a series of common events in the life of two couples.
